Terms of service

The rules for using SumFair. Last updated 2026-09-06.

1. The service

SumFair, provided by {{COMPANY_LEGAL_NAME}}, {{COMPANY_ADDRESS}}, Romania ("SumFair", "we"), is a web application that helps groups of people record shared expenses, read receipts, allocate items to participants and calculate who owes whom. By using sumfair.com you agree to these terms.

2. What SumFair is not

SumFair calculates and displays amounts. It does not hold, transfer or process money, and it is not a payment service, bank or financial adviser. Any payment between participants happens outside SumFair, through the means participants choose. Receipt recognition is automated and may contain errors; the host is responsible for reviewing the lines before finalizing a bill.

3. Accounts and guests

You may use SumFair without an account. If you create an account, keep your sign-in details confidential and tell us if you suspect unauthorised use. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

4. Acceptable use

  • Do not upload content you have no right to share, or content that is unlawful, abusive or infringes someone's rights.
  • Do not attempt to access other people's bills without their share link, probe or overload the service, or reverse engineer it beyond what the law permits.
  • Do not use automated tools to create bills or upload images at volume without our written consent.

5. Your content

You keep all rights to the receipts and data you upload. You grant us the licence needed to store, process and display that content to you and to the participants of the bill, and to improve receipt recognition using aggregated, de-identified data, as described in the privacy policy.

6. Free plan and paid features

The essential features of SumFair are free. Paid features, when offered, will be described together with their price, billing period and cancellation terms before you buy. We may change or discontinue free features with reasonable notice.

7. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify the service, and we will try to give notice of changes that materially reduce functionality.

8. Liability

SumFair is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for disputes between participants about amounts. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including under Romanian and EU consumer protection rules.

9. Termination

You can stop using SumFair at any time and delete your account from its settings. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Romania. Consumers in the EU keep the protection of the mandatory rules of their country of residence. Disputes may be brought before the competent courts of Bucharest, Romania, or, for consumers, the courts of their residence. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
