A paid SumFair Plus tier with advanced extras (exports, analytics, smart rules, permanent history) is planned. The core will stay free, because guests joining and claiming is what makes SumFair useful in the first place.

No. Guests open the link or scan the QR code in any browser, type a name and start claiming items. No app install, no account, no email or phone number.

The person who creates the bill (the host) doesn't need an account either. An optional account adds history, saved groups and sync across devices.

You photograph the receipt with your phone. For long receipts you can take several overlapping photos and SumFair stitches them together and removes duplicated lines.

SumFair reads item names, quantities, prices, discounts, taxes, service charges and deposits, then checks that the lines add up to the printed total. If something doesn't match, it tells you which lines to look at.

Every field is editable: rename an item, change a quantity or price, add or delete lines, merge duplicates, adjust the tip or total. Tap, edit, save.

SumFair keeps comparing the lines against the printed total and highlights low-confidence lines, so you know exactly when everything adds up.

Yes. An item can be claimed by one person, shared equally, split by exact amounts, by percentages, by shares (for example 1 : 1 : 2) or by quantity, such as two of the four beers on the receipt.

By default they are spread in proportion to what each person consumed, so someone who had 25% of the food pays 25% of the tip. You can switch to an equal split, custom percentages, exclude someone, or turn the tip off.

Mandatory service charges, voluntary tips and taxes are tracked as separate lines, because they often follow different rules.

Yes. SumFair has a country rules layer that understands how receipts are printed in different places: the Romanian SGR packaging deposit, German Pfand, Italian coperto and servizio, French service compris, US sales tax and suggested tips.

These fees are attached to the right items instead of being treated as separate products, so if you claim the Coca-Cola you also get its 0.50 lei deposit, and if the bottle is shared the deposit is shared too.

Yes. SumFair stores every amount in whole minor units (cents, bani, pence) and never uses floating-point arithmetic. Rounding is deterministic and auditable: 10 lei split three ways becomes 3.34 + 3.33 + 3.33, never 3.33 × 3 = 9.99.

The invariant is simple: the sum of everyone's share always equals the amount actually paid.

Yes. Trip mode tracks any number of expenses over days or weeks: scanned receipts, manual expenses like a taxi or fuel, transfers between people, refunds and even shared income such as a voucher.

One expense can have several payers, and each expense keeps its own currency. At the end, SumFair simplifies who pays whom.

Instead of everyone paying everyone, SumFair calculates the smallest set of transfers that settles all balances exactly. Four people who owe each other in a circle usually end up with two or three payments instead of six.

Yes. You can settle everything, everything up to today, selected dates, selected expenses or selected people. That's useful when someone leaves early, or when the group wants to close the first three days before continuing.

Settled expenses are locked in a checkpoint and can be reopened, with an audit trail, if a mistake is found later.

SumFair shows each person exactly what they owe and to whom, and lets them copy an IBAN or phone number, open a payment request link, or mark the amount as paid.

SumFair does not process payments or hold money. Deep links to popular payment apps are planned.

Each expense keeps its original currency and the trip has a base currency. The exchange rate is saved with the expense at the time it is added and never changes retroactively, so balances stay reproducible.

Share links use long random tokens and contain no names, phone numbers or emails. Guest sessions are kept only for a limited time. Receipt images are used for reading the receipt and are not sold or shared.
