# SumFair

> SumFair (sumfair.com) is a free web app for splitting restaurant bills and group expenses. One person scans the receipt, everyone else joins from a QR code or link in the browser, with no app install and no account, and claims the items they had. SumFair reads the receipt line by line, spreads tips, service charges, taxes and local deposits fairly, rounds exactly so shares always add up to what was paid, and for trips it tracks many expenses in several currencies and simplifies who pays whom. Tagline: "Sum it up. Split it fair."

Key facts:
- Price: free for all essential features (scanning, sharing, claiming, tips and taxes, trip mode, multi-currency, settlement). A paid SumFair Plus tier with exports, analytics, smart rules and permanent history is planned.
- Guests never need an account, email, phone number or app. Hosts can optionally create a free account for history and sync.
- Split methods per item: claimed by one person, shared equally, exact amounts, percentages, shares, quantity.
- Country-aware receipts: Romanian SGR deposit and VAT, German Pfand, Italian coperto and servizio, French service compris, US sales tax and suggested tips.
- Money is stored in whole minor units; rounding is deterministic; the sum of shares always equals the total paid.
- Trip mode: multiple expenses, multiple payers, multiple currencies with locked exchange rates, debt simplification, partial settlement, settlement checkpoints with audit trail.
- SumFair does not process payments; it shows who owes whom and helps copy IBAN/phone details or open payment request links.
